Common questions
What students ask most
Can I use ChatGPT for my homework?
FirstLine has approved specific AI tools for students — Gemini Enterprise, Coursemojo, PlayLab. We do not use consumer ChatGPT for schoolwork. Your teachers may use additional tools (Claude Enterprise, ChatGPT for Teachers) for their own work, but those are not for students. Your teacher will tell you when and how to use approved tools in class. When in doubt, ask them first.
Is it cheating to use AI to help me?
Depends on the assignment. Some assignments explicitly allow AI as a thinking partner — for brainstorming, checking your work, or getting unstuck. Others expect you to work without it. Your teacher will make expectations clear for each assignment. Turning in AI-written work as if it were your own is cheating.
Is my information safe when I use these tools?
The tools we approved use enterprise agreements that keep your data private. Your work isn't used to train AI models. Even so — don't share personal information (your address, phone, family details) with any AI tool. The full protections are in our Student AI Usage Policy.
What if the AI gives me a wrong answer?
It happens — AI can be confidently wrong. Always double-check important facts against a real source. Your teacher and textbooks are still the source of truth for what's actually correct. AI is a starting point, not a final answer.
Who can I talk to if something feels off?
Start with your teacher — they're closest to what's happening in your class. If it's a bigger concern about how AI is used at FirstLine, tell your school leader, or have a family member email Scott Shirey (CIO) at sshirey@firstlineschools.org.
